I’m off to Memphis today, for yet another fellowship interview. It’s a short trip — I come back tomorrow — but the hospital and the program that I’m visiting are, by all accounts, so amazing that people tell me I’d be doing myself a disservice by not going. So off I go!

no, but you have to move to how-ston! how-ston!

Does How-ston have BBQ like the stuff that I just ate?

(Wait, I can answer that question with a question of my own: does Memphis have Tex-Mex like Tejas?)

I’ve been and will be spending a lot of time in Memphis over the next couple of months. It’s a pretty interesting town. Still very Southern, but getting more progressive. If you get a chance, there is a barbecue joint downtown called Rendezvous that has fantastic ribs. Also - on a nice night I recommend an evening that starts with drinks at the Peabody hotel, followed by a trip to the roof to visit the ducks and watch the sun go down.

There is, of course, the obligatory trip to Graceland, too.

I spent, literally, less than 24 hours in Memphis — landed at 5:30 PM on Thursday, and took off at 5:20 PM on Friday. So, all I got to do was eat BBQ (at a place called Nelly’s, on Jefferson), sleep in my hotel, and interview at the hospital.

I wish I had had a chance to see more of Memphis, since I am expected to now make a decision as to whether I could live there (and ask Shannon to live there!) for three or four years.

Commence hyperventilation… now.

Memphis is really a cool town. I have a good friend doing his residency there in radiology - I can put you in touch if you want an insider’s perspective from the medical point of view. would that be helpful?

Not a bad idea, Billy. Feel free to pass my email address onto him…
