Despite the fact that I went into Barnes & Noble today looking for a single book to get me through one more day of jury duty, I came out with:
- Stalking the Angel, by Robert Crais
- The Monkey’s Raincoat, by Robert Crais
- The Good People of New York, by Thisbe Nissen
- The Law of Similars, by Chris Bohjalian
- Straight Man, by Richard Russo
- the June 2002 issue of Linux Magazine
Really, it’s impossible for me to survive a trip to a bookstore without spending at least $50.
That reminds me, I’ll let you loan me some of the books that you’ve finished! I don’t have any fun reading down here in DC. Please?

• Posted by: Anil Dash on Jun 14, 2002, 12:34 PMYou can stop at $50? How do you manage that?
I envy you, sir.

• Posted by: Lydia Markoff on Jun 14, 2002, 3:09 PMWell, it was $68 this time; it’s usually about $60 to $75. And doing that every three weeks or so means that all of my non-hospital, non-Shannon, non-geek time is filled up with books!
• Posted by: Jason Levine on Jun 14, 2002, 3:12 PMMark - There’s no Powells on the east coast.
(Imagine a bookstore that is one city block big. There’s also a sattelite store that’s 100% computer & math books, but we’ll leave that out of the picture. This full city block of books is four stories tall in some parts and just one or two stories tall in others. But it’s still the largest used book store in the world.)
• Posted by: SpecialK on Jun 18, 2002, 12:35 PMPoint. Jason, if you ever come to Portland, OR you and Shannon have a standing invitation to a tour of Powell’s, and definitely bring more than $50 a person. Trust me. SpecialK is right; I honestly have to schedule and extra hour of just wandering around before I can even think of starting to choose books.
