I’m not sure if the essay was meant to lead to its own validation (and I wouldn’t put it past that sneaky bastard Anil), but there may not have been any more effective a way to prove the point of this essay than the development of this thread.

I didn’t realize that LGF had a previous life in which it was a pleasant place to read. It’s definitely an echo chamber today.

Whew! That was exhausting! Another reminder why I don’t participate in newsgroups anymore :)

I’d rather argue in person, anyway…people are much more civil (usually).

That was… invigorating, if a bit depressing in the overall. If only I had a solution to the problems of mob mentality, closed-mindedness and how to achieve understanding through deliberate perspective.

It’s all about the perspective. If you’re willing to take a step away from yourself and truly think about how things must be for a rational thinking being other than yourself, you can learn to understand and appreciate a great deal about your fellow human beings.

Feh. What am I thinking? It’s much more fun to be in a big crowd of people who like to make fun of other people. We merely graduated from high school, we never really left it behind.
