I can’t believe I’ve neglected to mention up until now that I had my very last ER shift as a pediatrics resident ever this past Saturday. You cannot imagine how exciting this is for me; as much as I love the critical care stuff in the ER, the primary care stuff (and the overt abuse of the system) drives me up a wall. I had grown to dread going to work in the ER, and now, I can officially say that it’s all behind me.

And that’s why I left, as well. If I wanted to work at the outpatient clinic, I would have taken a job there. It got so I was playing Trolls with every patient, adding my own scoring points as time went on.

Oy.

I guess it depends on preferences, I know a ER resident that loves working there and can’t even imagine being a doctor without being in the ER.

Nice balance — it’s always good to see doctors who are excited about their job.
